Request for help finding East German interview

My name is Denise Schreiner and I'm a producer for a new public radio program called The Story with Dick Gordon. Dick was formerly the host of The Connection, a national broadcast from Boston.

What The Story aims to do is bring listeners the voices of people not normally heard...those with first hand experiences and a personal investment in stories; not the usual experts, pundits and academics.

I'm writing in hopes you might have some suggestions of people I could speak with about a particular story I'm working on about domestic eavesdropping , which of course has been much in the news lately. I'm trying to locate someone who has had personal experiences living and working under a government system (like East Germany) where you know someone is watching everything you write, do or say. We want to explore what that does to people individually and society as a whole, and what privacy really means.

Revisiting what life was like in East Germany before reunification could have particular resonance for us in America today as there seems to be increasing tolerance for government intrusions in the name of security. And I believe people who can testify to history have a great deal to teach us today.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions of people I could speak with on the telephone. My contact information follows.

Best regards,
Denise Schreiner
