The Human Rights Officer at an American Embassy has the duty to compile and report on human rights violations in the country in which he/she serves. His/her reports are used to draft the annual "Human Rights Report" (HRR) published by the State Department. Governments that appear in the HRR may be subject to sanctions by the United States Government.
Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch are two nongovernmental organizations that also publish human rights reports. They should be contacted as well so that they can investigate your report.
If violations of your religious freedom occur, you should contact the Officer at the US Embassy or consulate responsible for drafting the International Religious Freedom Report (IRFR). This report is also annual and describes violations of religious freedom.
The most recent versions of both reports can be downloaded from the State Department's website: Human Rights and International Religious Freedom.
Only those who have the courage to report human rights violations will see the violations appear in the HRR, IRFR and international media. You should send a copy of your report to the GWA by e-mail as well, at this address.
